孤根 the stalk chair

We were invited to design a chair for the 10cc "十師+俬" exhibition under the topic "Love Seat".

Half of our planet was covered in vegetation ten thousand years ago but nowadays only two-thirds remains. If this rate of consumption / destruction continues soon none would remain but a single stalk; would one still feel comfortable, knowing that what he is resting on is the last that has remained?

The chair is form with resin components assembled via Mortise and Tenon joint, referencing our traditional carpentry and the need to preserve our natural resources.

Completed in 2016.

Material choices prioritise honesty and provenance — timber, stone, metal, and crafted junctions that support both guest experience and long-term use.

Outcome

A completed interior for 10CC 2016 that embodies Atelier E’s craft-led approach and extends the studio’s portfolio across hospitality, residential, and commercial work.
